TITLE
ADOPT BY TITLE ONLY RESOLUTION NO. CC-2402-005, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY

COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDONDO BEACH, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING SUBMITTAL OF

THE FUNDING REQUEST CERTIFICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF RESOURCES

RECYCLING AND RECOVERY (CALRECYCLE) FOR PAYMENT PROGRAMS AND RELATED

AUTHORIZATIONS

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Approval of this item will allow staff to submit an application for the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) Beverage Container Recycling City/County Payment Program and other CalRecycle payment programs for FY 2023-24. The grant allocation is based on a predetermined per capita population formula with the goal of developing and maintaining local beverage container collection and recycling programs. The City’s FY 2023-24 funding allocations are anticipated to total $17,446.

BACKGROUND
CalRecycle administers a program to provide opportunities for local governments and other eligible jurisdictions to receive payments for various activities associated with beverage container recycling and removal. The City has received funding from the Beverage Container Grant payment program for the last eighteen years. The City’s allocation from the program for FY 2023-24 is anticipated to be $17,446. The funding will be utilized to replace existing beverage container collection receptacles (mixed waste containers) that have outlived useful lives in City parks and along public sidewalks.

Funding is also requested to purchase a water refill station for installation in a City park. The grant funding will help the City meet program goals to reduce the number of beverage containers in the waste stream and to capture these items when not recycled by consumers.

COORDINATION
The Resolution was approved as to form by the City Attorney’s Office.

FISCAL IMPACT
The City is estimated to receive $17,446 of CalRecycle Beverage Container Recycling City/County Payment Program funds in FY 2023-24.
