BEACH FIRE DEPARTMENT AS COMPARED TO THE CONSOLIDATED FIRE DISTRICT OF LOS
ANGELES COUNTY
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
At its April 16, 2024 meeting, the City Council considered policy options on whether to contract provision of fire protection, paramedic, and incidental services with the Consolidated Fire Protection District of Los Angeles County (District). At that meeting, Citygate Associates, LLC (Citygate) provided a presentation on the policy options for the Council to consider. Council requested that this public safety item be brought back for discussion and possible action at the May 21, 2024 City Council meeting.
BACKGROUND
On April 16, 2024, Citygate provided a presentation on the comparative deployment of the Redondo Beach Fire Department as compared to the District. Stewart Gary, the public safety principal for Citygate, provided a summary with valuable insight of their findings, recommendations, and policy options for Council consideration. The presentation, along with the documents that Citygate prepared, are publicly available on the City’s website and have been included as attachments to this report. At this time, Citygate has completed their scope of work, as directed by the Council, and is available to negotiate the expansion of the initial scope, if desired.
COORDINATION
This report was coordinated with the City Manager’s Office.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with this discussion item, however, additional costs could be brought to Council at a future meeting for consideration, should follow-up action be requested from either the District or Citygate.
