SCOPE OF WORK
PROJECT NAME: Redondo Beach Transit Center and Park and Ride PROJECT LOCATION:
The project is located at 1521 Kingsdale Avenue, south of the South Bay Galleria, in the City of Redondo Beach, within the South Bay area. The project is contained in two parcels with the limits of the project being Kingsdale Avenue on the east, 182nd St to the south and Metro railroad right-ofway on the west.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION INCLUDING MULTI-YEAR SUBREGIONAL PROGRAM AND PROJECT NEXUS:
The existing transit center was built over 30 years ago. It is located adjacent to the South Bay Galleria parking structure and difficult for passengers to use due to poor pedestrian circulation. Bus circulation through the existing terminal is also difficult since vehicle traffic on Kingsdale Avenue has increased. The new transit center will be constructed on 6.53 acres of dedicated land, approximately 2 blocks southwest of the existing terminal.
This project is part of the Measure M MSP- Transportation System & Mobility Improvements Program (Line 66). The project will reduce congestion by increasing access to public transit (bus and potential light rail). This project would improve regional mobility, enhance trip reliability and encourage ridesharing, an eligible Transportation System and Mobility Improvement. The purpose of this project is to relocate the existing intermodal transit terminal and construct a new transit center with 12 bus bays, passenger waiting area, site art work, information center, automated ticket machine, driver/operator lounge and a traffic signal at entry. Upon completion, the project will also provide 339 public parking spaces and bicycle facilities, significantly improving the operation of transit buses and providing all facilities required by the passengers.
Background, preliminary engineering, design and right-of-way acquisition for the Redondo Beach Transit Center Project have been completed. Project construction has 3 phases. Phase 1 includes construction of the new transit center with all the features listed above. Phase 2 includes Kingsdale Avenue widening, following the demolition of the existing transit center. Phase 3 includes resurfacing of Kingsdale Avenue and the surrounding streets. Measure M funding is being requested for Phase 1 construction phase improvements only. Phase 2 and Phase 3 improvements are separately funded. Phase 1 and Phase 2, both constructed by the same contractor, but expenditures are being re-organized and re-assigned. Phase 3 design is ongoing under a different project.
