COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDONDO BEACH, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE OFFICIAL BOOK
OF CLASS SPECIFICATIONS TO ADD THE POSITION OF LIBRARY MANAGER
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City maintains an Official Book of Class Specifications for positions in the service of the City of Redondo Beach. Pursuant to Article 5, Chapter 3 of the Municipal Code, class titles, class specifications, and salary ranges are periodically reviewed and updated.
As part of the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Adopted Budget, the City Council approved the creation of the Library Manger position and the class specification has been crafted to be in-line with similar positions in other agencies. The proposed class specification has been reviewed, and agreed to by the Redondo Beach Professional and Supervisory Association (PSA).
BACKGROUND
The position of Library Manager was created as part of the FY 2024-25 budget adoption process for the Library Department. The position will directly assist the Library Director with planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating the activities, programs, and operations of the Library Department. Staff has prepared the job class specification to be commensurate with the duties, expectations, and requirements of Library Manager class specifications from other cities, and has included the City’s standard language and formatting.
Staff recommends the approval of the proposed job classification. The starting salary range for the Library Manger role, as approved in the FY 2024-25 budget, will be $6,705 - $8,657 per month, which is in conformance with other similarly situated positions in the PSA bargaining group.
COORDINATION
The Human Resources and Library Departments coordinated the Library Manager specification with representatives of the of the Redondo Beach PSA. The City Attorney’s Office reviewed the Resolution and approved it as to form.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with updating the Official Book of Class Specifications. Funding for the Library Manager position is available in the Library Department’s Fiscal Year 2024-25
