This is a request to have the Public Safety Commission assess the 500-600 block of North Prospect as well as Public Works. Last week safety concerns around our neighborhood were re-triggered when the Layne Pumping station was moved near the bus stop and RBPW Director’s child predator email about LA county security lighting resurfaced. That triggered other bus stop safety issues and the need for the area around the bus stop to be openly visible without cars parked in front to deter undesired acts there. It also triggered other issues associated with the wider BCHD area including the parking structures and the unhoused camping in the area.

Long time neighbor Daryl Boyd, also a 30+ year property owner, has been working to address some of the many problems that in his words “have increased in the past four years.” As a direct result of the discomfort and fears associated with frontage road safety issues, we’ve not spent much time at our Redondo home during the past 4 years of problems that Darryl refers to. We’re retired so we can be away, but most others can’t. At the recommendation of RBPD, our security video system was expanded after a 2AM stalking incident related to yet another hit and run accident. We can provide footage to the city. Over the years we’ve had 6 vehicles hit 8 times. Following the stalking and hit and run, we no longer leave a car parked pointed north on the street at the intersection so there’s no visual cue left that the 501-511 side is one-way and our security shows a big increase in wrong way and reckless traffic as a result.

There are NUMEROUS other problems caused by this deceptively complex intersection. We appreciate that the Public Works dept and commission are looking for solutions and we strongly request that the safety commission review our area –including the safety of young eBikers that use the wrong way section as a bike path to and from school.

We strongly urge the city council to engage the Public Safety and Public Works to jointly work to increase safety around the bus stop, BCHD area, and service road in general.

Thank you

I support this. We don't need smoke shops in our neighborhoods.

I support the cities moratorium on smoke shops. First, we must prevent any future smoke shops from opening as we already have way too many in the city. We must limit the number of smoke shops in the city.

Second, the smoke shops currently display drug paraphernalia in windows and entries, and we need to place mandates to prevent them from being able to do so.

I appreciate the city council looking into this matter and improving the healthy culture of our city.

Hello All,
I strongly support the city council ordinance to limit the amount of smoke shops in Redondo. Let’s focus on attracting other businesses to our community. Thank you for your time on this issue.

I strongly support the RB City Council's efforts to halt establishment of more smoke shops in our city - we already have too many. In order to protect our youth from the harmful substances they sell and advertise, I believe it's best for the city to have as few of the smoke shops as possible and monitor the shops that are in operation as much as possible.

Thank you to our city council for taking this important step.

This will impact the health and safety of our youth.

I urge continued efforts for an ordinance that bans synthetic and non-tobacco nicotine products, which are the products our youth legally access. They are unregulated and exist due to a regulatory loophole that Big Tobacco exploits.

Removing these dangerous products from the shelves of smoke shops, gas stations, liquor stores etc...will have a huge, positive impact on our youth.

There are too many smoke shops, already damaging the culture and health of our city. I urge the Council to vote in favor of this urgent interim ordinance. Redondo Beach and its residents deserve better.

I support the halt of new smoke shops in my community because they often target youth and contribute to rising nicotine addiction. These establishments can negatively impact the character and health of our neighborhoods.

Our focus should be on promoting businesses that support wellness, safety, and long-term community growth.

As a 30-year resident, I am well beyond overdue on this. First, the massage parlors, now the smoke shops. This ordinance should have been a top priority for the council in the last five years, but we had too many council members and the mayor's pro teams focusing their energy on the wrong side of town. I support the council finally taking action to enforce an ordinance on this issue. Hopefully, it will free up some very decent real estate to get things moving and start cleaning up Artesia Boulevard.

As a parent and resident, I support the City Council's proposal for a moratorium on new smoke shops. Smoke shops send the wrong message about the culture, health, and aesthetics of our community. As a community, we need to make changes that will attract the type of businesses that will revitalize our city.

Thank you to the City Council for looking into the permits issued to smoke shops and proposing a moratorium on any new smoke shops in the interim. I believe there are 15 smoke shops in our City and that is plenty. These shops advertise their products in the windows, use obnoxious neon lighting and drive away other businesses from the area. The City needs to focus on attracting other long-term, viable businesses that will revive our shopping and entertainment districts and bring much needed revenue to the City. I strongly urge the Council to vote in favor of this urgent interim ordinance. Thank you.

I applaud the city initiative of issuing a moratorium until the final city ordinance regulating smoke shops is finalized. This is a much-needed ordinance in Redondo Beach. I believe most residents will agree that we have too many smoke shops.

I wholeheartedly support the interim ordinance on smoke shops. This urgent measure is necessary to address the growing number of smoke shops in our community. By temporarily halting new developments, the city can ensure that a comprehensive and well-considered final ordinance is put in place. This proactive step will help protect public health and improve the character of our beautiful city. The council's decision reflects its commitment to the well-being of all Redondo Beach residents.

STOP FURNITURE AND BUSES TO GENERATE ADVERTISING REVENUE Overall Sentiment

We strongly oppose the monetization of buses and bus stops, as it contributes to the visual deterioration of our public spaces over time and does nothing to enhance the quality of life in an already dense city. Advertising clutters the urban environment and would specifically impact key streets in our community without offering meaningful benefits. Public transit should prioritize dignity, accessibility, and community—not corporate branding or commercial messaging. We commend the City of Gardena and its transit staff for choosing not to move forward with advertising on their transit assets. We respectfully request that you oppose this item. Like our City Manager just said, we need to increase our green area spaces. INSTEAD of advertising, consider adding vertical plants or planters around these transit assets—greening our streetscapes and improving the daily experience for riders and residents alike.

Monetizing busses and bus stops if done well is supportable. However, we cannot enclose bus stops with advertising the way they've done on Hawthorne in Torrance. They have a variety of unacceptable uses that create problems for the rightful users of the bus stops. Further, they end up full of garbage. Let's be cautious not to create spaces that are not transparent from both the street side and the backside to assure safety and hygiene.
