This message is to show my support for Darryl and the Cruise at the Beach Car Show. The love of cars and cruising has its roots in Southern California. The cities of Manhattan Beach, El Segundo and Hermosa Beach all support this culture with their annual Car Shows. Cruise At The Beach in Redondo tops them all.

But it is more than a car show. The car culture has always supported charities and the money raised benefits the Salvation Army, Wounded Warriors, USMC Toys for Tots and many more. In addition, small local businesses and local music groups benefit from this event. This large gathering also supports the many local eateries and businesses in the King Harbor area.

I’m hoping that open communication can resolve all issues and make Redondo Beach community that all can enjoy.

The Cruise at the Beach car show has been going on for 25 years! and now it's a problem? I don't think so! It's a volunteer, community event, with donations to Wounded Warrior, Child Fund, etc. I'm surprised at all the bickering, deflection and attacking from the Mayor. Smh! Working together, listening ,civil communication and solutions are a better tactic for all.

The 500-600 N Prospect Ave. Residents have been seeking remedies to speeding, lack of traffic control & enforcement, safety issues, noise created by speeding traffic, illegal exhausts, loud audio, and the Beach Cities Health District. Our privacy and any sound buffer or safety barrier was removed under the direction of Deputy Public Works Director Mike Kline while under Mayor Light's watch. There was no consultation with the Residents on this street before taking this action. There was no plan in place for replacement. The Residents were left wide open and exposed. It took me initiating an inquiry, getting the neighbors together, and being the point person and voice to get something done. Before his election Mayor Light was brought by Paige Kaluderovic to our Neighborhood meeting on 2/8/25. He seemed to be interested in helping us, he even witnessed a wrong way bus heading down our street in front of our homes, speeding cars, screaming motorcycles, buses, trucks, at noise levels and speeds beyond what is acceptable under State, County, and local codes and ordinances. But now that he has been elected, he acts as if these problems don't exist. I have been after Light, Kaluderovic, and the entire City Council consistently to get something done about this nightmare from over 30 years of neglect by the City of Redondo Beach. Light lies, denies, deflects, and because I have called him out, he has reached a new low lumping the "Cruise At The Beach!" car show series now in it's 25th year, as a noise offender and part of a Citywide problem. Attacking my family, our people, our community & charity efforts. Attacking me for owning Classic Cars, which are non daily drivers, which he assumes are louder than a modern car or modern muscle car.

Light is an out of touch hypocrite, deflecting from the real Citywide problems of unsafe streets, out of control traffic and noise created from 5am to midnight and beyond all over this City, & the out of control e-bike problem. It is the job of The Redondo Beach Police Chief to get this all under control. The Mayor oversees the Police Chief.

Stop blaming me, a community event, & our classic cars because you aren't doing your job Light.

Glad to see this item for discussion! I support increasing the floor area ratio on Aviation and Artesia from 0.6 to

1.5 to create flexibility and new development opportunities. However as staff indicates, if we maintain the same parking requirements (Redondo Beach code requires 1 parking space for every 4 seats in a restaurant, 1 space for every 250 sq ft of floor area in takeout or "pedestrian-oriented" restaurants and commercial spaces) redevelopment will not be viable. The work of UCLA Parking Scholar Donald Shoup and the Parking Reform Network show that parking requirements in land use codes are often arbitrary and not based on rigorous science.

They are an impediment to redevelopment and to the creation of more walkable storefronts and business districts.

Our most cherished business districts and community spaces are those built before cars and parking requirements.

Therefore, I support removing parking requirements altogether from the zoning for the Artesia and Aviation Corridor, and allowing market forces and customer research to drive parking need. Minneapolis, Austin, and Portland have eliminated parking requirements in recent years, and these reforms have helped reduce car dependency, improve public health, and lower housing costs (https://e360.yale.edu/features/free-parking-reform).

I also support allowing mixed-use development with residential above commercial on Artesia and Aviation to encourage much-needed housing for young professionals, young families, and seniors in the community, and foster a dedicated base of customers to the corridor. South Bay Forward recently hosted a talk about livable and affordable communities with Tony Jordan of the Parking Reform Network. See their website:
https://parkingreform.org/
Finally, let's listen to the merchants who were surveyed: 18/24 indicated parking requirements were the largest barrier to redevelopment and 17/24 indicated flexible zoning regulations would help to redevelop properties.

Increasing FAR, eliminating parking requirements, and allowing mixed-use zoning will help revitalize the corridor.

I am a resident of District 3 and I am writing to express my strong support for the proposed zoning changes for the Artesia and Aviation corridors.

Specifically, I urge the city to:

Increase the Floor Area Ratio (FAR) from 0.6 to 1.5 to make redevelopment more viable.

Remove costly parking requirements that hinder new projects.

Implement mixed-use zoning, allowing for residential units above commercial spaces, to create a more vibrant and walkable community.

I wanted to leave a comment in support of mixed-use development with residential above commercial on Artesia and Aviation, along with increasing the floor area ratio (FAR) along Aviation and Artesia corridor from 0.6 to 1.5.

Making our main street areas more walkable and bike safe will help revitalize the area by making it more welcoming for residents who would like to go out and safely enjoy the amazing weather we have here while supporting local businesses.

In regards to the South Bay Galleria, are there any plans to knock down the wall that used to be a part of the old South Bay Galleria Transit Center? When the City of Redondo Beach demolished the old transit center (which was closer to Kingsdale Av) in Winter 2023, they removed the bus bays but did not tear down the wall. Whenever I drive by the mall along Artesia Blvd, looking at that wall is an eyesore. This is at the old South Bay Galleria Transit Center (the mall's parking garage facing Kingsdale), by the way.
