Budget and Finance Commission Meeting Motion – August 27, 2026 Motion by Commissioner Allen, seconded by Commissioner Jeste, to recommend to the City Council that the City Clerk position be increased, from the current salary, by the same rate and at the same time as merit increases are provided for senior staffers within the City and that they are not recommending any changes to the Mayor, City Councilmembers, or the City Treasurer.
Major points from the discussion included the following:
• The Commission did not feel they have enough information about the responsibilities of the positions in comparison cities to use those comparisons effectively to make decisions • The recommendation recognizes the City’s challenging fiscal situation • Their understanding that the City Clerk’s position is similar to full-time City staff (and the elected City Attorney); while the City Treasurer, as a part-time position, is more similar to other elected officials.
