The Redondo Beach City Council hereby finds that:
• Council and Mayoral service requires Councilmembers and the Mayor to maintain direct channels of communication with constituents — including newsletters, digital outreach tools, and other means of public engagement — reflecting an
expansion in the practical scope and personal financial cost of the office since compensation was last adjusted in 2022; and • Rather than establishing a separate stipend or reimbursement mechanism for such costs, which would require additional administrative oversight and costs, the City Council finds it more transparent and warranted to reflect these costs of service within overall compensation, consistent with ensuring that compensation reasonably reflects the full scope of duties and expenses associated with the office.
• This salary adjustment may also help our City Council and Mayoral positions become more diverse because increased compensation can help individuals from across different income levels receive sufficient income from their service to help ensure that they can continue to serve the public and support their families.
