To Whom It May Concern,
I’m writing to express my strong support for the current plan and process for the Seaside Lagoon as well as my opposition to the proposed lastminute land-grab of this public park space for private commercial use.
The current plans as being advanced by the city were the result of a process that engaged the community and sought its input. Now, Redondo residents are being asked to abandon these plans at the 11th hour because one person thinks he has a better idea -- one that presumably benefits him financially.
Last night (9/14/26), Allen Sanford offered a presentation to the Coastal Commission in which his proposed private wave pool has now metastasized into what he calls a “town center” that’s open until 10:00 PM daily, including a live music component. He also suggested that whoever makes possible his vision of what he’s now dubbed an “ocean park” on public land should actually have their name on the buildings to be recognized by future generations.
Before moving to Redondo, I lived in Washington, DC for decades. I go back there frequently and know many people who still live there. This whole situation sounds very similar to what’s happening in our nation’s capital today. A self-described ‘visionary’ ignores established processes, announces what he feels is best for local residents, and tries to plow ahead -- with a ballroom, an arch, an ‘improved’ reflecting pool, or in our case, a “surf pool” by the ocean -- while explaining away legitimate questions and concerns.
I urge the City Council to continue to move forward with the original plan for the Seaside Lagoon.
Sincerely,
