ORDINANCE NO.3320-26
AMENDING RBMC SECTION 2-3.905
ESTABLISHING SALARY &
BENEFITS OF THE MAYOR
ORDINANCE NO. 3320-26
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
REDONDO BEACH, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING TITLE 2, CHAPTER
3, ARTICLE 9, SECTION 2-3.905 OF THE REDONDO BEACH
MUNICIPAL CODE, ESTABLISHING THE SALARY AND BENEFITS
OF THE MAYOR
WHEREAS, Council and Mayoral service requires Councilmembers and the Mayor to maintain direct channels of communication with constituents — including newsletters, digital outreach tools, and other means of public engagement — reflecting an expansion in the practical scope and personal financial cost of the office since compensation was last adjusted in 2022; and
WHEREAS, rather than establishing a separate stipend or reimbursement mechanism for such costs, which would require additional administrative oversight and costs, the City Council finds it more transparent and warranted to reflect these costs of service within overall compensation, consistent with ensuring that compensation reasonably reflects the full scope of duties and expenses associated with the office; and WHEREAS, this salary adjustment may also help our City Council and Mayoral positions become more diverse because increased compensation can help individuals from across different income levels receive sufficient income from their service to help ensure that they can continue to serve the public and support their families.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDONDO BEACH, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Title 2, Chapter 3, Article 9, Section 2-3.905 of the Redondo Beach Municipal Code, is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 2-3.905. Salary of Mayor: Entitlement to Fringe Benefits “Effective April 1, 2029, the salary of the Mayor shall be, and the same is hereby determined fixed and established at the sum of Two Thousand and Three and 00/100ths ($2,003.00) Dollars per month. The Mayor shall receive in addition, deferred compensation in the amount of twelve (12%) percent of salary, and shall be entitled to receive those other fringe benefits applicable to the position and similar to which the Management and Confidential employees, from time to time, may be entitled.” SECTION 2. INCONSISTENT PROVISIONS. Any provisions of the Redondo Beach Municipal Code, or appendices thereto, or any other ordinances of the City inconsistent herewith, to the extent of such inconsistencies and no further, are hereby repealed.
