Program – City of Richmond
2019 JAG Project Identifier: Police Equipment-General
The City of Richmond is projected to have a budget deficit and is trying to close the shortfall through budget reductions. The Richmond Police Department is being asked to reduce its budget and the most severe cuts will be imposed on the funds to purchase policing equipment. As a result, the City of Richmond/Richmond Police Department is requesting grant funds to offset this shortage.

The City of Richmond/Richmond Police Department is applying for funds from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance (JAG) program FY2019 Local Solicitation in order to purchase police equipment to be used by sworn employees.

Proposed Program Activities
Safety Equipment Purchases: Ballistic Body Worn Armor, Carrier Vests; Ballistic Shields, and Mobile Computers (Getac v110) and the associated hardware.

The purchase of this equipment will increase the safety of the officers while performing their duties, which is the top priority of the Department. The ballistic shields will be placed in the Sergeants vehicles for ease of access, making them immediately available in the field when the need arises. The Department currently has ballistic shields that are assigned to SWAT, by placing these additional shields in the Sergeants vehicles it will allow for broader use of the devices in a high-risk situations.

The pr ogram would utilize JAG funds to purchase Mobile Data Computers (Getac v110) and associated hardware to be placed in police patrol vehicles The Patrol and Communications Division use MDCs to access the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management System City of Richmond – Police Department
