CELEBRATE, EXPLORE AND ENJOY
Black History Month is an annual
celebration of history, culture and
achievements made by African Americans.
It is our time to recognize that Black History
is U.S. History. Since 1619, people of African
descent have made an impact on the history
of the United States.
African music, dance and storytelling
traditions have become dominant influences
in American and international cultures.
Often unrecognized contributions by
African Americans to science, technology
,industry as well as sports, have created the
world we know today without most knowing
that an African American person was the
driver behind the innovation, and creativity
that we have come to take for granted.
From Hip Hop, to Soul Music, to the Blues
and to Jazz to the development of the
American Space program, and most recently
development of the COVID-19 vaccine
African Americans have played and
continue to play a pivotal role in the forming
of the American identity despite 400 years
of struggle for equal rights, voting rights,
housing and land rights and brutal
oppression.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH!BLACK HISTORY MONTH!
During this month, we encourage everyone to
consider that Black History is American History!
And to take time to learn more about the
phenomenal contributions of Black Peoples in the
Americas. Attend a Black History month event in
your local community. Fearlessly open yourself to
learn more about the painful history of the long,
hard road towards Justice and Liberation that
people of African descent have had to walk, and
continue to walk, in this land.
