Dear City Council,
Thank you for accepting and appropriating the $4.8 million awarded to the City for the Castro Encampment. I urge you to make better use of this funding than what was done at the Rydin Road encampment. The unhoused residents of Castro must be a part of this process from beginning to end. They must especially be involved in hiring the staff that will manage the encampment. Finally, this RFP/RFQ process must be fair--that is, a competitive bidding process must take place and a race equity lens should be applied to selecting the best contractor. No more business as usual.

In solidarity,

To whom this may concern: please accept the grant funds for the encampment resolution, and MAKE sure the funds are used to resolve the encampment and help the houseless people to get housing ASAP, so the Castro encampment can be resolved as soon as possible.

City allowed the Castro encampment (imposed the encampment to North Richmond residents without input from any of us) in North Richmond a historically distressed neighborhood with that it’s perpetuating red lining, it really feels and looks like segregation of communities in distress, (the richest neighborhoods rejected a safe site with services and were respected) this encampment is not safe for residents of the encampment neither for North Richmond residents, the neighborhood it’s being more affected with crime, fires, trash, graffiti and more, we the residents of the neighborhood are held to an standard where we have to pay for utilities, keep up our properties and to pay property tax, while we were imposed and encampment with no services or rules that affect our daily life’s, our properties and it’s little or not help to the houseless community.

Do the North Richmond residents need to file petitions, sue or what? to be heard, and receive the same respect as any other neighborhoods? we deserve respect, and the houseless community deserves a place to live with dignity,
Thanks for your attention.

Dear Council members,
Please support Map 201. It is wrong to deny people the right to vote for six years. East Richmond has nothing in common with El Sobrante. We don't share commercial shopping areas, schools, nor neighborhoods. We are separated by miles of regional park wildlands, canyons and mountains.

It makes no sense for District 6 to be absorbed by District 4. District 4 has more in common with their Northern border, District 2.

Please support Map 201.

Dear Council Members,
Please support Map 201:

It reflects our geographical and social connection with the San Pablo Avenue corridor (“communities of interest”) — and keeps our district compact, undivided, with easily identifiable boundaries.

It also results in a diverse district population — and does not disenfranchise anyone.

With appreciation for your work on behalf of Richmond,

Dear Mayor and Council Members,
I want to thank you in advance for adopting item P.2: a resolution of the City Council of the City of Richmond adjusting the boundaries of the six City Council Districts and adopting a new official Council District Map No. 201.

I want to bring something to your attention however in regard to this item. In the last week advertisements like this one have been showing up in my Facebook Feed.

No it is not an April 1 joke. Council District Map No. 201 has been voted in and now after the fact I get these advertisements. Who are the people behind the Richmondrepresented.good.do? Where does the money to fund these ads come from? What interest group is influencing this process?
Richmondrepresented does not represent me. As far as I know the Richmond Heights Neighborhood Council (RHNC) was never invited to join this group. The RHNC had several meetings where we looked at all the maps and came out in favor of map 201.

Again who is Richmondrepresented? It is a disgrace that first the city council allows this group to submit maps three weeks after the deadline and that now after the vote has been taken it is still trying to influence the people of Richmond.

I trust you to do the right thing. Map 201 has the least impact and will allow voters in current districts that are up for election in the next election cycle to cast a vote.

Thank you for your consideration.

Dear City Council Members,
I am a 35 year resident of East Richmond and have served in the past as the secretary of the Richmond Heights Neighborhood Council. I was part of an effort some years ago to institute district elections of our City Council by an initiative process. I pursued this goal because I believe that electing our Council by district will better serve all the diverse neighborhoods and communities in our City. I still think this is the case but it is clear that the effectiveness of such representation depends on the details of how the district maps are drawn.

I previously wrote a letter regarding the current redrawing of the City Council districts asking you not to split District 6. I have looked at both maps 201 and 102c and given the matter much thought. As a result, I am changing my position and write to you today to ask you to adopt the proposed map 102c. It is my opinion that map 102c will best serve the City as a whole. It promises to produce a City Council more representative of the various neighborhoods and communities of interest than map 201, which serves primarily to preserve the status quo.

My husband, Charles T. Smith, has asked me to add that he also supports the views stated in this letter.

Dear Council Members,
We would like to maintain our mapping with our neighbors in close proximity and not be forced to merge with neighbors who are not in adjacent areas. We all benefit from caring about our communities that we actually live in. I have never been to the section of East Richmond where they are trying to connect us.

Please support Map 201.

Dear Council members,

Please support Map 201 in the redistricting plan.

My understanding is that limited leafletting was conducted in Richmond schools and a few other venues. This is not adequate – all residents affected by redistricting should have been educated and informed about the decision being made.

Dear Mayor and City Council members:

Please support Map 201 in the redistricting of Richmond. We live in the triangle west of I-80, between the freeway, San Pablo Avenue and McBryde Ave. We connect with our neighbors across S.P. Ave and across the freeway for many events, meetings, volunteer activities. We are a connected community. Map 201 respects our “contiguous” relationships, which is an element stated in the State of California guidelines for voting districts. Adopting Map 201 also would mean that a district would not be required to miss participating in an upcoming election. Please respect our request to support Map 201.

Dear Council members.

Please support Map 201
As a resident of 5101 Prather Ave, I much prefer to be part of map 201 than to be considered together with the totally different San Pablo Dam area. We rarely go there and have far less in common with them as neighbors.

Mayor Butt and City Councillors,
The agenda report for Item P.3. Presentation of a Potential Revised Project for the Terminal One Site this Tuesday night indicates that the Council will be receiving a presentation on a potential revised Land Disposition Agreement for Terminal One without a shoreline road, i.e. having a publicly accessible park and Bay Trail along the shoreline without an intervening roadway. TRAC prefers having only the Bay Trail and public park along the shoreline with retention of Brickyard Cove Road as the through route for motor vehicle traffic. This is the design used so successfully at Marina Bay and more recently for Sea Homes Waterline residential development. It provides a superior experience for pedestrians and cyclists on the Bay Trail, allowing enjoyment of the Bay and its shoreline without the presence of motor vehicle traffic, noise and exhaust fumes. It also would provide residents of the Terminal One site with unimpeded physical and visual access to San Francisco Bay. For example, they would not have to cross a busy road to reach the shoreline park and walk, jog or bicycle along the Bay Trail.

While TRAC recommends that a shoreline road not be included in an LDA for Terminal One, we have no position on whether the City should enter into a revised LDA with Laconia or on conceptual site studies that might be presented Tuesday night. We recognize that any studies or plans presented at this time are necessarily speculative in that they would be subject to revision based upon review by the City’s Design Review Board and Planning Commission for ultimate approval by the City Council, as well as the Bay Conservation and Development Commission.
