A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, CALIFORNIA,
ACCEPTING AND APPROPRIATING THE URBAN FLOOD PROTECTION GRANT AWARD OF $1,598,844 FOR THE FLOOD RISK REDUCTION IN THE RHEEM CREEK WATERSHED
PROJECT
WHEREAS, the City of Ric hmond (City) collaborated with American Rivers, The Watershed Project, and Restoration Design Group to apply to the Califor nia Natural Resources Agency Urban Flood Protection Grant Program for the Flood Risk Reduction in the Rheem Creek Watershed Project; and
WHEREAS, on July 6, 2021, the Richmond City Council adopted Resolution No. 83 - 21, approving the application for grant funds for the U rban Flood Projection Gran t and authorizing the City Manager, or their designee, to execute agreements with project pa rtners to complete the grant funded project; and
WHEREAS, on September 7, 2021, the California Natural Resources Agency awarded the City of Richmond $1,598,844 for the Flood Risk Reduction in the Rheem Creek Watershed Project; and
WHEREAS, the Flood Risk Reduction in the Rheem Creek Watershed Project will rehabilitate a 2,000 -foot section of Rheem Creek and will reduce floodin g in the surrounding neighborhood.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council finds the above recitals are true an d correct and have s erved as the basis for the findings and approvals set forth in this Resolution.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager, or their designee, to accept and appropriate the grant funds in the amount of $1,598,844 for Fiscal Year 2022-23.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City hereby agrees to allocate the grant funds for a multi -benefit project to address flooding in urbanized areas in accordance with the Urban Flood Protection Grant Program Application Gui delines and the State of California Natural Resources Agency Grant Agreement #UF8814-0.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution take s effect immediately upon its passage.
