DISCUSSION:

The 2018 Getac Mobile Data Computer (MDC) replacement was funded by a grant awarded to the Police Department; however, the grant no longer exists.

The MDCs are purchased in phases to correspond with vehicle replacement. At the end of their useful life, vehicles and their hardware will stop working efficiently and repair will be uneconomical. The next phase of police vehicles is planned, and MDCs and their hardware must be coordinated to provide a full-functioning vehicle.

This purchase follows the Richmond Municipal Code Section 2.52.330 Piggyback procurement which allows for a “piggyback” purchase using another agency’s purchase contract if it is in the best interest of the City of Richmond. DuraTech USA, Inc. is an authorized reseller for the Getac (a subsidiary of TD Synnex) product that was awarded a bid by National Cooperative Purchasing Alliance (NCPA) which utilizes state of the art procurement resources and solutions that result in cooperative purchasing contracts that ensure all public agencies are receiving products and services of the highest quality at the lowest prices.
