Letter of Condolences
Mr. Yasuhika Aoki
October 8, 1930 to December 31, 2021
On behalf of the City of Richmond, we would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Yasuhiko "Yas" Aoki, who was one of the founding members of the Richmond-Shimada Friendship Commission.
Mr. Aoki was instrumental in keeping the relationship between Shimada and Richmond officials intact. Due to his historical and institutional knowledge of the program, he was a vital member and contributed greatly to the success of the relationships and exchanges.
In particular, Mr. and Mrs. Aoki would hold annual orientations at their home for the commission's youth ambassadors that were preparing to visit Shimada. Mr. and Mrs.
Aoki would provide cultural information, conversational Japanese and instruction on how the youth should conduct themselves as youth ambassadors of Richmond.
There are countless ways that Mr. Aoki contributed to the Richmond-Shimada Friendship Commission. We were saddened to hear of the passing of our friend Mr.
Aoki. We will cherish the fond memories and keep his wife and family in our thoughts as we continue our sister city friendship of over 60 years. May his soul rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Callin Evan Suchuk
