DISCUSSION:
Joey Smith is a water conservation technician for the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD). Joey volunteers with the Black Women Organized for Political Action's State Board and Richmond / Contra Costa County Chapter, Richmond Rainbow Pride, EBMUD’s Community Leaders, United Nations Association of the USA, American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Local 2019, Soka Gakkai International and USA, The Barony, Asian Pacific Employees Association, and Black Employee Network. Joey is interested in further strengthening their engagement with their adopted home of the City of Richmond by continuing their dedication on the Recreation and Parks Commission in serving as an advisory liaison to the Richmond City Council on the behalf of the Richmond community.
Allison Blakeley is a violinist with the Monterey Symphony and Symphony Silicon Valley. Allison volunteers with the Berkeley Piano Club, Oakland Museum Women’s Board White Elephant Sale, Musicians’ Union Local 6’s Area Wide Casual Wage Scale Committee and Annual Picnic and Barbecue Committee, Monterey Symphony’s Players’ Committee and Negotiation Committee and Delegate to the Regional Orchestra Players’ Association, ROPA’s Equity, Diversion, and Inclusion Committee, El Sobrante Municipal Advisory Council’s Subcommittee on Illegal Dumping, and the El Sobrante Homelessness Forum. Allison has been serving on the Recreation and Parks Commission since the beginning of 2020, has learned a lot, thinks they are fulfilling a useful function, is getting more familiar with the community as well as their colleagues on the commission, and wishes to continue as they believe they are getting better at it as they learn how to do it. Allison has been elected secretary, has just recently started to learn how to fulfill that function, and would like to continue.
Maryn Hurlbut is retired and volunteers with the Richmond Tennis Association, the Point Richmond Neighborhood Council, and the Hurlbut Benevolent Foundation. Maryn wishes to continue to serve on the Recreation and Parks Commission that they have contributed to over the last six years, help the people of Richmond, and improve all communities in Richmond.
