DISCUSSION:
Youth Outdoors Richmond Program is a combination of volunteer work, activities, and field trips designed specifically for Richmond youth and their extended families and friends. Program participants will experience activities in the community and local and regional natural area trips and activities for both education and self-discovery, as well as nature exploration.
On September 14, 2021, City of Richmond staff submitted a grant application for the Youth Outdoors Richmond Program. On May 27, 2022, the City was awarded the Outdoor Equity Grant funds for the program. On November 1, 2022, City Council adopted a resolution to accept and appropriate the grant funds in the amount of $700,000 from the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation Outdoor Equity Grant Program.
The Youth Outdoors Richmond program is a result of a collaboration in grant application submittal with the City, The Watershed Project, and Groundwork Richmond. The Watershed Project and Groundwork Richmond are local non-profits that helped create the programmatic design and budget for the awarded program. Now that funds have been granted, The Watershed Project and Groundwork Richmond will provide programming for the project.
Based on their integral role in the grant award, City staff has provided a sole source justification. Through these contracts, The Watershed Project and Groundwork Richmond will provide outdoor educational programming for the Youth Outdoors Richmond program.
