DISCUSSION:

The Tyler Technology Connect23 Conference will be held in San Antonio, Texas in May of this year. Per City Resolution 92-17, City employees are prohibited (with exceptions) from traveling to 22 states, including Texas.

Resolution No 92-17 - Resolution supporting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex Queer and Questioning (LGBTIQQ) Community and Establishing a Policy to Prevent City-Funded Travel to States with Laws Discriminating on the Basis of Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity or Gender Expression. Exceptions to the travel prohibitions may be granted by the City Manager for several purposes to include:

“To complete job-required training necessary to maintain licensure or similar standards required for holding a position, in the event that comparable training cannot be obtained in California or a different state not subject to the travel prohibition.”

The Tyler conference contains training opportunities that are unavailable elsewhere which City staff believes are necessary to effectively administer the product. The Annual Tyler Technology Connect23 Conference is essential to shaping the City of Richmond’s mission of empowering the public sector to create smarter, safer, and stronger communities.

This event will give City staff a unique opportunity to discover new ways to boost thier productivity and improve their services by making full use of the City of Richmond’s Tyler Munis, Socrata, and MyCivic products. Not only will IT staff be able to interact with and learn directly from Tyler Technology, but the conference will also allow City staff to network with industry peers from across the country to exchange ideas, insights, best practices, and solutions to make better use of the City of Richmond’s technology investment in their daily work.

Additional benefits of attending this educational event include:

 Hundreds of educational and training sessions highlighting software enhancements, tips and tricks, and advanced product use to help improve staff performance and the City of Richmond organization’s outcomes and efficiencies.

 Networking opportunities with professional peers in similar roles across the country.
