Annual Compensation Adjustment for the City Clerk
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The compensation adjustment will increase the City Clerk’s base salary by approximately $14, 796.95
annually (for an estimated total compensation of
$255,402) and can be absorbed in the budget of the City Clerk’s Department (Clerk’s budget - Funding Source:
01141013-multiple).
PREVIOUS COUNCIL
ACTION:
The City Council met in Closed Session on March 28,
2023, to review the parameters regarding a potential
compensation adjustment for the City Clerk.
STATEMENT OF THE
ISSUE:
Approval by the City Council in open session is required to authorize a compensation adjustment for the City
Clerk.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
APPROVE a salary adjustment for the City Clerk
effective March 1, 2023, from $14,092.38 per month to
$14,797 per month (a five percent increase) – Human
Resources Department (Sharrone Taylor/Nickie Mastay

DISCUSSION:
On Tuesday, March 28, 2023, the City Council received a report on the accomplishments, future goals, and compensation of the City Clerk. The City Council also reviewed compensation related data from peer agencies including the following:

After considering the performance during the last year, as well as peer compensation data, City Council directed City staff to add its recommendation for a salary adjustment of five (5) percent for the City Clerk to the consent calendar so that an oral summary of the recommendation and a final decision by City Council can be made.
The compensation adjustment will be retroactive to March 1, 2023, and will increase the City Clerk’s base salary from $169,109 annually to $177,563 annually (a five percent increase). The compensation adjustment is within the currently approved salary range for the position of City Clerk.
Total compensation for the City Clerk, including base salary and dollar-cost benefits is approximately $255,402 annually, as follows:
