DISCUSSION:
On or around March 17, 2023, high winds caused an electrical pole and transformer to fall at Booker T. Anderson Park. The transformer started to leak an unknown liquid, possibly Polychlorinated Biphenyl, a chemical shown to cause respiratory and neurological problems in humans and cancer in animals. To prevent park visitors and animals from being exposed to a potential significant health hazard, several contractors were contacted by City staff to clean up and dispose of the transformer oil. CAL INC.
Environmental Services & Industrial Coatings was the only vendor to respond in a timely manner.
City staff recommend approving an emergency contract with CAL INC. Environmental Services & Industrial Coatings for the clean-up and disposal of transformer oil at Booker T. Anderson Park, in an amount not-to-exceed $32, 613.68.
