Event organizers using the City’s Auditorium have identified lighting improvements as a key area requiring attention. On September 1, 2021, the City circulated an Invitation for Bids seeking contractors willing to undertake the construction of the City Auditorium’s Main Lighting System Improvements located at 403 Civic Center Plaza in Richmond (the "Project"). Pro-Cal Lighting Inc. submitted the lowest responsive bid and was determined to be responsible. The initial contract for replacing the Main Room lighting was awarded to Pro-Cal Lighting, Inc. in the amount of $500,000.

During the course of work, Public Works staff requested additions to the scope of work (Bid Alternates #1 and #2), including 24 Boxing Ring and Orchestra Pit Lighting features, and 91 First Floor and Mezzanine Floor Corridor Lighting lamps, respectively.

The total combined cost for Bid Alternates #1 and #2 is $348,845. City staff is proposing a contract amendment in the amount of $350,000, for a total new contract of $850,000.

The necessary funds were allocated in the fiscal year 2023-24 Public Works Department Capital Improvement Plan budget.
