1 Statement from Charles Smith, neighbor of Carol
Teltschick, on her passing

Our dear friend and neighbor, Carol Teltschick,
passed away on the evening of February 2, 2021, after a long and courageous struggle with cancer. She
departed just days after publishing her first book of
short stories, I Once Walked barefoot. I do not believe that this timing is coincidental. She was determined to get her book completed and survived long enough to
hold her published stories in her hands. She
accomplished this goal, as she did so many other things in life, through the exercise of exceptional
determination and strength.

As many of you may be aware, Carol was a natural-
born environmentalist, growing up as a Texas farm girl
loving horses and wide-open spaces. She worked
tirelessly to protect what little land and sea there is left 2 to preserve in the Bay Area. She was in on the battle to save Point Molate from the very beginning, long before
she and several others founded Citizens for a
Sustainable Point Molate. It was during our second
fight to save Point Molate that she found out her cancer had returned. Through all the treatments, doctor visits, medications, and pain she worked ceaselessly,
contributing enormously to our struggle.

Carol played a wild saxophone, practiced yoga, and
volunteered as a ranger at Point Reyes, working with
the horses there. She traveled the world alone from a
young age; played soccer with both men and women
whenever she had an opportunity to do so. Some years
ago, Carol was seriously injured when kicked by a horse in the leg but fought her way through to full recovery to ride again. She devoured books, was fluent in French,
loved to dance, and had advanced degrees in
science. She was a staunch feminist. Carol was frugal 3 but generous, loved children and people with her
characteristic energy and enthusiasm. Carol loved her
neighborhood and neighbors. She will be sorely missed
by all of us who knew her, worked with her, and loved
her. She went way too soon.
