DISCUSSION:
Carol Teltshcik passed away on February 2, 2021, and will long be remembered as a civic and community leader in Richmond. She served on the Richmond Planning Commission for two (2) full terms from 2009 through 2012. While on the Planning AGENDA

Commission, she and her fellow commissioners reviewed the 2030 General Plan and made recommendations to the City Council. In addition, Carol served on the General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC). Carol was especially concerned that the General Plan include protection of the entire shoreline and Pt. Molate, in particular, for purposes of public health, climate protection and environmental sustainability.
Carol was one of the founders of the Citizens for a Sustainable Pt. Molate. Over the years, she engaged extensively with outreach to the public and writing articles and op- eds in opposition to a casino at Pt. Molate. She worked tirelessly researching and showcasing the results of her research outlining the problems that a casino would bring to Richmond. Simultaneously, she worked to gather public input on ideas for preserving Pt. Molate. In recent years, she worked with both the Pt. Molate Alliance and the Richmond Shoreline Alliance continuing to promote a sustainable Pt Molate and a healthy shoreline that restores ecological balance and prevents harm to our residents from toxins and sea level rise.
Carol also adored children and wanted them to be aware of the beauty of nature and the environment. She led tours to Pt. Molate Beach Park and was involved with events that gave the children a chance to appreciate the outdoors.
Carol also was involved in clean-up events at Pt Molate Beach Park and was, in fact, very involved in advocating for the reopening of Pt. Molate Beach in 2013.
Carol was an author of a book of short stories called "I Once Walked Barefoot" which she published the week before she passed.
She was a volunteer with the National Park Service's Golden Gate National Recreation Area's mounted horse patrol based in Tennessee Valley in Marin.
To learn more about Carol and her amazing character and spirit, please read the attached tribute written by Richmond resident and activist Charles Smith. There will be an event at Pt. Molate Beach Park in the fall and we are hoping that Public Works can install the bench and plaque by that time.
