Dear Mayor and City Council,
Richmond has a unique opportunity to transform its port from a home primarily of industries that endanger our residents' health (coal, gypsum, scrap metal piles that periodically catch fire) to a vibrant hub for the wind- power technology so essential for the transition to a zero-emission future.

The Sunflower Alliance and Richmond Shoreline Alliance urge the council to embrace this opportunity and endorse hiring not only a Port Director but also adequate staff to pursue this forward-looking plan. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Janet Johnson

I actively occupy and benefit from stolen land of the Ohlone Chochenyo people, who looked after this land for centuries and still live here. I advocate and support efforts for Indigenous land to be returned to Indigenous ownership and management. Learn more at https://sogoreate-landtrust.org.
