After three long years without our City’s biggest and happiest parade, City of Richmond’s Cinco de Mayo Peace and Unity parade returns! AGENDA
REPORT
June 20, 2023
The Annual Cinco de Mayo Peace and Unity Parade event originated in 2006, with the theme “Peace and Unity, Paz Y Unidad”, and it was organized after the cities of Richmond and San Pablo experienced informal and unsupervised Cinco de Mayo celebrations along 23rd Street.
Community members organized in collaboration with the City of Richmond, City of San Pablo, generous sponsors, and volunteers, for a safer and family friendly event and, thus, founded the Annual Cinco de Mayo Peace and Unity Parade. In celebration of the 15-year anniversary of this event, this year’s Cinco de Mayo Parade themed “Quince” and the City of Richmond’s Cinco de Mayo Festival on May 7th, attracted thousands of, participants, dignitaries and spectators from all over the Bay Area in celebration of Cinco de Mayo, a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican Army's May 5, 1862, victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla.
Mayor Eduardo Martinez, Councilmember Cesar Zepeda and the Richmond City Council commend the volunteers who have worked tirelessly since 2006 to provide a safe and family friendly event that has become one of the largest Cinco de Mayo celebrations in the East Bay.
