DISCUSSION:

Napa-Solano SANE/SART will be utilized to conduct Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) kits when Contra Costa County Medical Center (CCRMC) Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) are unavailable. CCRMC has limited nursing staff available to do SART kits leaving Napa-Solano SANE/SART as our only option. Napa-Solano SANE/SART is used by all Contra Costa County agencies including the City of Richmond.

SART kits are vitally important to preserve evidence for sexual assault crimes and must be performed quickly and with care. SANE nurses are specially trained to perform the task and to preserve the evidence to be used in a conviction of a suspect.

This contract is being requested using a three-year sole-source authorization.
