DISCUSSION:
The Richmond Fire Department ("Department") is a full-service department serving more than 115,000 Richmond residents during critical emergencies such as fire, medical, hazardous materials, and rescue incidents. With seven fire stations strategically located throughout the City, the Department also operates with special resources to effectively respond to various types of emergencies. Among these resources are the Hazardous Materials Response Team at Station 64 (HAZMAT 64), and Rescue Units 67 and 68 located at Stations 67 and 68, respectively.
The Department intends to purchase air monitoring devices for HAZMAT 64, Rescue 67, and Rescue 68. These devices are essential tools in safeguarding the lives of both personnel and the public during emergency response operations involving hazardous materials and confined spaces. The current inventory of the department’s air monitoring devices is outdated. It is therefore imperative to purchase new air monitoring devices to enhance the effectiveness and safety of our operations. Furthermore, purchasing new air monitoring devices for our specialized units will enhance the effectiveness and safety of our emergency response activities.
The Department is seeking City Council approval to purchase air monitoring devices from Mallory Safety and Supply, LLC. The total cost for the products is approximately $47,000, as detailed in the attached quote summary. The vendor is a qualified supplier known for providing equipment that adheres to industry standards and regulatory mandates. It is imperative that the City Council approves this request so that our department is equipped with reliable air monitoring devices that meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
