WHEREAS, the City of Richmond recognizes May as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, celebrating their rich cultural heritage and contributions to our community; and
WHEREAS, AANHPI communities have significantly shaped Richmond’s history, culture, and development, contributing to our city’s economic and social growth; and
WHEREAS, the City of Richmond acknowledges the diversity within AANHPI communities, recognizing their unique histories, struggles, and achievements; and
WHEREAS, we honor the resilience and strength of AANHPI individuals and families who have faced adversity and contributed to the enrichment of our society; and
WHEREAS, the City of Richmond is committed to fostering an inclusive environment that embraces diversity, promotes equity, and ensures that all residents have the opportunity to thrive; and
WHEREAS, we encourage all residents to learn about and appreciate the contributions of AANHPI individuals to our community and support efforts promoting understanding and respect among all people; and
WHEREAS, the City of Richmond stands in solidarity with AANHPI communities, committed to combating hate, intolerance, and violence against them.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Eduardo Martínez, Mayor of the City of Richmond, on behalf of the Richmond City Council, do hereby recognize May 2024 as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in the City of Richmond, California, and urge all residents to join us in celebrating the diverse cultural heritage and contributions of the AANHPI communities.
