AGENDA
REPORT
June 4, 2024
DISCUSSION:
In 2009, the Public Works Fleet Maintenance Division purchased 150 GPS units from Verizon Connect (formerly Networkfleet) to be installed in City of Richmond vehicles.
Verizon Connect provides online vehicle location services, vehicle diagnostics, vehicle speeds, vehicle emissions monitoring and reporting capabilities. Fleet Maintenance continues to use this method of monitoring City owned vehicles.
Verizon Connect is the manufacturer and only service provider that is compatible with the hardware currently installed on City of Richmond vehicles.
In 2021, staff sought to contract with Verizon Connect to provide GPS maintenance and monitoring services for the City’s vehicle fleet. Staff completed a sole source justification that was approved by the Finance Department. City Council subsequently awarded a contract to Verizon Connect, based on the sole source justification, to provide GPS maintenance and monitoring services for the City’s vehicle fleet. The original contract expires June 30, 2024, and Verizon Connect continues to be the only service provider for the City’s GPS units. Staff is requesting City Council to extend the contract term for an additional two years, through June 30, 2026, with an additional contract amount of $120,000 for the two, one-year extensions, for a total contract capacity of $270,000 for the full five-year term of the contract.
