Senior Permit Technician

The Human Resources (HR) Department has been working with the Community Development Department regarding their staffing needs. The department needs a Senior Permit Technician, a classification that does not currently exist. HR has worked with the Community Development Department staff to develop a job specification for the Senior Permit Technician classification, and the Personnel Board approved the classification on May 23, 2024. This classification will be represented by SEIU Local 1021, and they agree with establishing the classification and adopting the salary range.

Plan Check Engineer

The HR Department has been working with the Community Development Department regarding recruitment for the Plan Checking Engineer vacancy. During this process, it was discovered that the job specification did not include a required Professional Engineer (PE) license. Staff reviewed job specifications from 12 comparable agencies and determined that changes were required to the title, the description, and the salary to align with the market for a position with this license. The Personnel Board approved retitling the position from Plan Checking Engineer to Plan Check Engineer and changes to the job specification on May 23, 2024. This classification is represented by International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) Local 21 Mid- Management Unit, and they agree with revising the title and the salary range.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is one incumbent in the Plan Check Engineer job classification who will receive a salary adjustment. The estimated fiscal impact for the remainder of FY 2023-24 (one month) is $2,373 (salary plus 80 percent benefits approximation).

NEXT STEPS:

City staff recommends the approval of the resolution to amend the salary schedule to add and retitle these positions. Accordingly, the attached resolution will adjust the salary ranges for these classifications in the following manner:
