DISCUSSION:

Juneteenth honors the emancipation of enslaved African Americans on June 19, 1865, marking a significant milestone in the fight for freedom and the end of slavery in the United States. This day serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength of African Americans and the ongoing struggle for racial equity and justice.

The African American community has played a pivotal role in shaping Richmond's history and development. From the early migration during the World War II era to their ongoing contributions to the city's cultural, social, and economic fabric.

Richmond recognizes and honors these invaluable contributions. We encourage residents to reflect on the African American community's impact on our city and support efforts to build a more inclusive and equitable society.

The annual Juneteenth celebration will be held on June 22, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. The Juneteenth parade will start at Kennedy High School at 10:00 A.M. and end by joining the festival at Nicholl Park at 12:00 P.M. Please join us to commemorate this historic day and engage in meaningful conversations about systemic racism.
