DISCUSSION:

The Public Works Fleet Maintenance Division needs a wheel alignment machine to perform alignments in-house. City staff currently delivers and retrieves vehicles for alignments to local vendors that can take up to a day to complete. Having this machine in the mechanic shop will improve turn-around times for scheduled vehicle maintenance appointments and wheel replacements. This machine will accommodate a majority of the vehicles in the City’s fleet.

There are no manufacturers of wheel alignment machines in the City of Richmond.

This purchase is in compliance with the City of Richmond Municipal Code Section

2.52.320 Piggyback procurement which allows for a “piggyback” purchase using another agency’s purchase contract if it is in the best interest of the City of Richmond.

Based on Department of General Services contract no. 7-23-99-48-01 pricing, Fleet Maintenance staff recommends that the alignment machine be purchased from Mohawk Lifts, LLC, for an amount not to exceed $80,000 (Attachment 1). The Finance Department has approved a piggyback justification for the proposed purchase (Attachment 2).
