various City facilities. During the mid-year process, staff requested additional funding from City Council, to address leaky roofs at various city facilities.
Preventive maintenance measures, such as waterproofing and repairs, are cost- effective treatments that prolong the useful life of a facility roof for five to seven years.
This will provide more time for the City to develop a strategy for replacing roofs, which usually require a structural assessment, hiring an architect and/or a structural engineer, upgrading roof structure designs to conform to current seismic standards, and issuing large construction contracts. These roof replacements are longer-term endeavors, require planning and design, and are relatively costly.
City staff members request approval of a piggyback contract with Angeles Contractor, Inc. for waterproofing and repairs at various City facilities in an amount not to exceed $300,000 and for a term ending June 7, 2025. Individual work authorizations will be issued as needed for work at individual facilities as needs arise and funding becomes available, pursuant to the proposed agreement.
