AGENDA
REPORT
September 10, 2024
DISCUSSION:
Allen, Glaessner, Hazelwood & Werth LLP (AGHW) currently provides special counsel services defending the City of Richmond in a variety of municipal litigation, including but not limited to the defense of the City in tort/dangerous condition, personal injury, and inverse condemnation litigation under a Legal Services Agreement (LSA) originally executed in 2020. AGHW has been representing the City in these types of lawsuits since 2013 and routinely handles several such cases at any one time. The firm is on the City Attorney Office’s approved 2021 Request for Qualifications (RFQ).
AGHW has the experience and expertise necessary to continue to represent the City of Richmond in pending and future dangerous condition, inverse condemnation, and personal injury litigation. The City Attorney’s Office requests approval of the Seventh Amendment to the LSA with AGHW increasing the contract amount by $250,000 to an amount not to exceed $1,510,000 with term ending June 30, 2025, so that AGHW can continue to defend and represent the City in current litigation and accept future cases as they arise. Rates for AGHW during the contract period are as follows: Partners at $270 per hour; Associates at $235 per hour, and Paralegals at $120 per hour.
