WHEREAS, on December 17, 1979, the City of Richmond adopted an ordinance which created the Commission on Aging; and
WHEREAS, the Richmond Commission on Aging is involved in countless activities for the well-being of our seniors such on issues of housing, health, leisure time, rehabilitation, transportation, education, employment, and social & volunteer services; and
WHEREAS, the Commission On Aging is one of the most active commissions in the City of Richmond, presenting and organizing several events every year with their signature event being the Annual Senior Winter Ball; and
WHEREAS, the Commission invites everyone to join them at this year’s 25th Annual Silver Anniversary of this Senior Winter Ball, which will take place on December 14, 2024, from 6pm to 10pm in the Richmond Memorial Auditorium; and
WHEREAS, this year’s Winter Ball pr omises to be an amazing extravaganza with dinner, music, dancing and warmhearted community engagement; and
WHEREAS, it is important to acknowledge the contributions older individuals have made in our communities and in the workplace to the economic well -being of our City through civic leadership and mentoring; and
WHEREAS, our expanding senior population profoundly impacts every facet of our lives, redefining our ideas of work, retirement and leisure, altering our housing and living arrangements, challenging our healthcare systems , reshaping our economy, and altering social and public policy; and
WHEREAS, the opportunit ies and challenges that await all members of our community require our continued commitment to the goal of ensuring that our seniors enjoy active, productive and healthy lives, and do so independently, safely and with dignity.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Richmond celebrates the contributions of older Americans and rededicates our efforts to better serving their needs.
Honoring The Commission on Aging on the 25th Anniversary Senior Winter Ball
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that members of the City Council and the public are encouraged to attend the Senior Winter Ball on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024 at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED , that the Richmond City Council expresses its deep appreciation for past and continuing outstanding contributions of the Commission on Aging to the community and the City of Richmond, and congratulates them on this momentous occasion of the 25th Annual Silver Anniversary of the Senior Winter Ball 2024.
