Assistant Deputy Director of Public Works
The Human Resources (HR) Department worked closely with the Director of Public Works to evaluate and address the staffing needs essential for effectively managing and implementing Capital Improvement Projects. This collaboration also aims to enhance efforts to address blight and abatement issues in various neighborhoods. Tackling these challenges is crucial for promoting community well-being, increasing property values, and ensuring a clean and safe environment for residents. The classification of Assistant Deputy Director of Public Works was established to support these objectives. This role ensures that all necessary Public Works functions are adequately supported, ultimately leading to more effective service delivery and an improved quality of life for our community. The job description is approved, and the salary range is now being presented to the City Council for approval.

The Assistant Deputy Director of Public Works classification is represented by IFPTE Local 21 Executive Management Unit.

Assistant Transportation Planner/Associate Transportation Planner /Senior Transportation Planner
On June 4, 2024, the City Council approved the allocation of funds for two Full-Time Equivalents (FTEs) in the Department of Public Works. These positions are dedicated to managing street calming and implementing transportation-related initiatives in an integrated and sustainable manner. The Public Works Department is expanding its efforts by creating a Traffic Calming Division to address the specific needs identified by both the Public Works Department and the City Council. This division aims to promote a safe, walkable, bikeable, and transit-oriented City. Three new job classifications were established to support this initiative: Assistant Transportation Planner, Associate Transportation Planner, and Senior Transportation Planner. These positions will comprise the Transportation Division within the Public Works Department. The Personnel Board approved these new classifications on November 20, 2024, and the salary ranges for these positions are now being presented to the City Council for approval.

The Assistant Transportation Planner and Associate Transportation Planner classifications are flexibly staffed and represented by SEIU Local 1021 General Employees Unit. The Senior Transportation Planner is represented by IFPTE Local 21 Mid-Management Unit.

Contract Compliance Administrator
The City has recognized the need for a Contract Compliance Administrator position to enhance its oversight and accountability mechanisms. This role is essential for ensuring that all aspects of City contracts are managed effectively and that compliance with external workforce policies is rigorously maintained. This role will oversee internal City contracts and compliance activities associated with external workforce policies to
