ISSUE:
Ashton Desmangles is applying for a vacant seat on the
Richmond Youth Council
RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPOINT Ashton Desmangles to the Richmond Youth Council, with a term that expires October 1, 2025 –
Mayor’s Office (Mayor Eduardo Martinez 510-620-6503).
DISCUSSION: Ashton Desmangles, who is applying for appointment in the Richmond Youth Council, has shown exceptional leadership and advocacy. As a representative in the WCCUSD All Student Congress and the Anti-Racism Advisory Board, working to AGENDA

amplify the voices of peers and promote equity. Ashton was elected as his school's Black Student Union president, demonstrating his strong leadership and commitment to advocating for the needs of Black students. Additionally, as an assistant teacher with The Practice Space, a Richmond nonprofit, Ashton empowers youth by developing leadership and communication skills. These experiences highlight his ability to drive positive change and effectively represent youth in the community. Therefore, the Mayor is recommending his appointment to the Richmond Youth Council.
