ISSUE:
The City of Richmond recognizes April 2025 as American
Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month to honor
American Muslims' cultural, economic, and civic
contributions, promote inclusivity, and reaffirm the city’s commitment to religious freedom and mutual respect
amid a rise in anti-Muslim sentiment nationwide.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: PROCLAMATION Recognizing April 2025 as American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month - Mayor

DISCUSSION:
The City of Richmond proudly recognizes April 2025 as American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month to honor the profound contributions of American Muslims to our city, our state, and our nation. Richmond is a community built on diversity, inclusion, and respect, and our Muslim neighbors play an essential role in that fabric, culturally, economically, and socially. In light of the rise in anti-Muslim incidents nationwide, it is more important than ever for local governments to stand in solidarity with communities facing discrimination. By formally recognizing this month, we affirm our commitment to religious freedom, acknowledge the vital work of local mosques and organizations, and celebrate the enduring positive impact of Muslim Americans in Richmond and beyond.
