Hello Mayor Martinez and Council Members,
My name is Davjanee Tillis. I am a Richmond resident. I am writing in support of agenda item W-6.B to create an Ad Hoc Committee made up of the Mayor, Council members, The Police Chief, and a CPRC member to review and discuss passed recommendations. I feel it's important to create a community where everyone can feel safe, heard, and supported. I feel that the creation of this ad-hoc committee is a step in the right direction in reimagining public safety here in Richmond. The ad-hoc would not only hold all stakeholders accountable in moving the set of recommendations forward but it would also strengthen and update our police oversight body. I think it would ensure that the Richmond community has transparency and accountability when it comes to RPD. The current ordinance is outdated and does not allow CPRC to work efficiently or effectively. I am hopeful that the ad-hoc will work together to ensure that CPRC operates to reflect the current statewide and nationwide best practices for a police oversight body. Let's make Richmond a positive example for police accountability.

As a community member I hope that the ad-hoc committee moves with transparency by creating a timeline for the community to follow, sharing progress or any challenges regularly and publically. This would allow the community to follow what's going on and hold the ad-hoc accountable. Lastly, I want to say thank you Mayor Martinez for being committed to police accountability and creating a safe Richmond for all.

Hello Mayor Martinez, Councilmembers, and City Clerk,
My name is Marisol, and I am an appointed Commissioner on the Community Police Review Commission. I want to express extreme gratitude to Mayor Martinez for creating an ad hoc committee to review the recommendations passed and put forth by the commission.

Over the last six months, the commission has discussed how to strengthen its advisory powers.

The main goal of the recommendations is to increase transparency, accountability, trust, and confidence in the Richmond Police Department and the Commission itself.

While the Trump Administration is ramping up the militarization of police, increasing ICE in communities, and attacking our civil liberties, the city of Richmond stands as a beacon of hope and progress. This ad hoc can serve as a model of how cities can civically engage residents, work collaboratively, and build trust in our law enforcement.

Please support the Adhoc Committee to bring a commissioner liaison, the Chief of Police, the City Attorney, and Councilmembers to review and move the recommendations forward.

Feel free to contact me directly if you have questions on the recommendations, as I researched, presented, and recommended over half of the ordinance amendments for the Community Police Review Commission.

In community and collaboration,
Marisol
CPRC Commissioner
