Council Report April 2025
Mayor Martinez, Council, and Community,
The Richmond Police Department's crime statistics for April 2025 show a mixed trend in both violent and property crimes compared to March 2025.

In terms of violent crime, our total homicides for the year remain at zero. Aggravated assaults increased by 20%, from 66 to 79 incidents. Robberies decreased 31%, decreasing from 29 to 20 incidents. Sexual assaults also decreased by 17%, decreasing from 12 to 10 incidents. Overall, the total number of violent crimes increased by 2% from 107 to 109 incidents.

For property crimes, there was a 9% decrease in burglaries (excluding auto burglaries), with incidents decreasing from 35 to 32. Thefts, including auto burglaries, decreased by 6%, from 123 to 116 incidents. Vehicle thefts also decreased by 33%, dropping from 88 to 59 incidents. Arson incidents increased by 20%, increasing from 5 to 6 incidents. Overall, the total number of property crimes decreased by 15%, from 251 to 213 incidents.

Our calls for service indicate a 47% increase in impounds, increasing from 242 to 357. This increase can be attributed to a tow enforcement operation targeting abandoned vehicles in the city's southern district on April 23rd. 74 vehicles were towed during the operation.
