DISCUSSION:
The Golden Rule Peace Boat has a storied history as both a vessel and a symbol of nonviolent activism. First launched in 1958 by four Quaker activists in an effort to halt nuclear bomb testing in the Pacific, its journey helped spark global protests and contributed to the eventual signing of the Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty in 1963. After sinking in 2010, the Golden Rule was salvaged and restored through the dedication of veterans, Quakers, and volunteers, returning to the water in 2015 under the stewardship of Veterans for Peace.
Today, the Golden Rule continues its mission to promote nuclear disarmament, raise awareness of the interconnected impacts of militarism, environmental harm, and social injustice, and advocate for global peace. Its upcoming visit to Richmond, from August AGENDA
