STATEMENT OF THE
ISSUE:
The City Council’s authorization is required to establish the salary range for the Tree Trimmer classification by amending the salary schedule.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
ADOPT a resolution amending the salary schedule to
add the salary range for the Tree Trimmer classification – Human Resources Department (Nickie Mastay/Sharrone

DISCUSSION:
Tree Trimmer
The City has made a significant commitment to preserving and enhancing its urban landscape by establishing the Tree Trimmer classification. This initiative aligns with the City Council's broader goal of effectively managing and maintaining the urban forest. By AGENDA

introducing this classification, the City aims to ensure that its green spaces, particularly trees, receive the proper care and management they require to thrive. By focusing on urban forest management, the City is recognizing the vital role that trees play in enhancing air quality, providing shade, and improving the overall aesthetic of the City.
By ensuring that there are trained professionals focused on the care of these natural assets, the City is taking important steps toward sustainability and a healthier urban environment for all residents.
The Tree Trimmer classification was approved by the Personnel Board on July 24, 2025, and is represented by SEIU Local 1021 Part-Time Bargaining Unit.
NEXT STEPS:
City Council approval is required to amend the publicly available salary schedule. City staff recommend approval of the resolution amending the salary schedule to add the Tree Trimmer salary range effective August 26, 2025. Once approved, an entry will be made on the salary schedule to add the Tree Trimmer classification and salary range.
The attached resolution will amend the salary schedule in the following manner:
