The City of Richmond and Richmond City Council are proud to support this bold effort by the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE) and its partners, the Building Decarbonization Coalition (BDC) and Association for Energy Affordability (AEA), to make Richmond homes healthier, safer, and less expensive by educating low-income and working-class residents about the benefits of electrification and enrolling them in home energy-improvement programs.
These programs, including PG&E’s Electrify My Block and the California Energy Commission’s (CEC’s) Equitable Building Decarbonization, offer eligible Richmond residents the opportunity to a) upgrade to new and efficient electric appliances that reduce indoor air pollution (induction stoves, heat pumps), and b) fix structural issues that improve comfort and health (mold remediation, insulation). When coupled with solar and storage systems – also available to eligible Richmond residents through various initiatives – these energy efficiency upgrades increase service reliability and reduce electricity bills. This is all at minimal to no cost to residents, while also protecting tenants from rent increases and evictions.
These programs align with the City of Richmond’s goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase energy resilience, promote healthy indoor air, and enhance the quality of life for all.
