AGENDA
REPORT
April 21, 2026
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
APPROVE the co-sponsorship of the May 9, 2026,
Mother's Day event, and AUTHORIZE the one-time use
and fee waiver of the Richmond Auditorium to support a
community-led Mother’s Day Event celebration organized
by the United Business Organization - Vice Mayor Doria
Robinson (510-620-6568), Councilmember Soheila Bana
(510-672-3490), and Mayor Eduardo Martinez (510-620-
6503).
DISCUSSION:
The United Business Organization (UBO), a local nonprofit organization, would like City support to secure the Richmond Auditorium to host their annual Mother’s Day event on May 9, 2026.
UBO has requested a fee waiver for rental of the auditorium. Without the fee waiver, the estimated rental fee to rent the auditorium would be $5,199.50 plus a deposit of $3,081 for a total estimated cost of $8,280.50 (Attachment 1). This amount is cost prohibitive for the organization.
The 2026 Mother’s Day Event is a volunteer-organized event that will welcome an anticipated 300 or more people on May 9, 2026, to celebrate the sacrifices and hard work Richmond mothers do through free entertainment, gifts, food and more.
This event creates an opportunity for diverse members of the Richmond community to use city buildings and resources to support the celebration of mothers and the role they play in creating a healthy Richmond.
