DISCUSSION:
The City of Richmond Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS) has been awarded a grant in the amount of $35,000 from the Chevron Community Engagement Foundation (Foundation). ONS will utilize the Foundation grant funds to support coordinated violence prevention and community safety efforts across both the Office of Neighborhood Safety and the Community Crisis Response Program (CCRP).
Grant funds will be used to strengthen ONS’s core prevention strategies by supporting outreach, case management, participant support services, and program operations that reduce risk factors associated with violence and promote long-term stability for program participants. These investments will enhance ONS’s ability to engage Richmond youth most likely to be affected and/or confronted by gun violence, connect them to critical resources, and provide consistent, trauma-informed support that aligns with the City’s public safety goals.
In addition, a portion of the grant funds will support Community Crisis Response Program (CCRP) operations, which will be used to enhance street outreach/mobile crisis response to Richmond residents in need and provide necessities for participants ranging from supportive and connective services, such as groceries, emergency housing, transportation cards, clothing, hygiene items, acquiring official government documents or identification materials, etc. The grant funds will help support the work being done by the Reach Out with Compassion and Kindness (ROCK) Team.
By strategically leveraging the grant funds across both divisions, ONS and CCRP will continue to operate as complementary programs that address violence prevention and crisis response along a continuum of care. This integrated approach maximizes community impact, strengthens cross-departmental coordination, and advances the City of Richmond’s commitment to safety, equity, and community-based solutions.
