Police District Summary
Central District Crime and Community Issues
Management at St. John’s Apartments continues coordinating with PD regarding criminal activity, with camera access pending approval and additional patrols requested.
In the 200 block of Duboce Avenue, narcotics complaints decreased following an arrest, with next steps including Code Enforcement involvement, identifying ownership, and pursuing a nuisance assignment. In the 1200 block of Fred Jackson Way, ongoing concerns involving speeding, parking, disturbances, and neighborhood conflicts have resulted in additional traffic enforcement, with further traffic-calming operations planned for late August through September. The 23rd Street Merchant Association’s third- quarter meeting was scheduled for July 16 with Sgt. Castillo attending, while complaints continue regarding parking, loud music, and vehicle activity near 5th Street and Bissell Avenue. Two unsanctioned “Hood Day” gatherings on July 11 and July 18 drew crowds of up to 200 people and significantly strained department resources due to fights, assaults, shootings, reckless driving, and parking issues.
Northern District Crime and Community Issues
Across Beats 7–9, officers focused on community engagement, traffic enforcement, and quality-of-life concerns. Beat 7 personnel participated in several community events at Nicholl Park and the grand opening of the Home Depot Sub Station, while also conducting targeted enforcement related to loitering, public intoxication, prostitution- related activity, unhoused individuals, and abandoned vehicles along Macdonald Avenue and the 23rd/24th Street areas. In Beat 8, Westridge Apartments activated its FLOCK camera system and provided RPD access. Beat 9 officers conducted traffic enforcement targeting speeding and stop-sign violations, while RPD, ROCK, and CORE addressed quality-of-life and abandoned vehicle concerns in the 3500 block of El Portal.
Southern District Crime and Community Issues
Officers increased patrols and enforcement throughout the Southern District in response to several public safety concerns. Efforts included additional patrols around Costco to address auto burglaries and vehicle thefts, increased parking enforcement at Point Isabel to address semi-truck violations, and additional staffing at Crescent Park for the “Hood Day” gathering, where officers handled fights, noise complaints, and parking issues. These proactive efforts will continue as needed to deter crime, improve compliance, and maintain safety and accessibility throughout the district.
