DISCUSSION:
The Richmond Fund for Children and Youth Oversight Board (Measure E) oversees the allocation of funds dedicated to supporting quality programs for Richmond’s children, youth, and families. The Oversight Board is composed of community members, including youth representatives, who evaluate program impacts and ensure resources are distributed effectively.
Applicant TriDuc Tran has submitted an application expressing a strong interest in representing youth perspectives and ensuring Measure E resources deliver maximum positive impact across the community. Approval of this recommendation will fill a seat on the Oversight Board with an active student leader and community volunteer.
TriDuc is currently a student at Middle College High School (MCHS) who brings a strong record of school engagement, youth leadership, and local volunteerism across Richmond and West Contra Costa County. In addition to his academic commitments at MCHS, he serves as a Center Assistant at the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Pinole.
His community involvement spans several leadership and volunteer roles. Mr. Tran is the Founding President of the MCHS Calisthenics Club, a Teacher’s Assistant at Giáo Lý Việt Ngữ St. Paul, and an active sports official as a referee for the West Contra Costa Youth Soccer League and Football Club Alliance. He also operates his own local photography business, RawTriD Photography.
Through these varied roles, TriDuc Tran brings direct experience in youth organizing, teamwork, and strategic planning. His practical background aligns closely with core Measure E priority areas, particularly education and job training, youth and family leadership, organizing and civic engagement, and outdoor education and recreation.
In his application, TriDuc Tran highlighted his commitment to creating safe, productive learning environments and recreational spaces for Richmond youth. He noted:
"As a student, educator, and community volunteer, I have seen firsthand how access to quality educational, recreational, and mentoring programs positively impacts children's lives. I want to represent the youth to the best of my ability while making sure that resources go to the programs that make the greatest impact."
