workplace protections and rights enjoyed today. These include fair wages, safer working conditions, reasonable work hours, and the right to organize and collectively bargain.

Richmond has a longstanding history as a labor city. From the workers who helped build the Kaiser Shipyards during World War II to today's workforce in education, healthcare, manufacturing, construction, transportation, public safety, government, and service industries, generations of workers have contributed to the City's growth, resilience, and prosperity.

Organized labor has played an important role in advancing workplace safety, economic opportunity, and equity while strengthening communities throughout California and across the nation. The City of Richmond recognizes the continued contributions of workers whose efforts support essential public services, local businesses, infrastructure, and the regional economy.

Labor Day also provides an opportunity to reaffirm the City's commitment to supporting working families, promoting safe and equitable workplaces, and recognizing the dignity and value of work in building a stronger and more inclusive community.
