City Council
259 N. Wilma Avenue
Ripon, CA 95366
MEMO
To: Honorable City Council
From: James Pease, Public Works Director
Date: 01/11/2022
Subject: UniFirst
RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Approve and authorize the Mayor to sign the agreement with UniFirst to provide uniform and other miscellaneous laundry services for the City beginning March 14, 2022.

BACKGROUND:

The City currently uses the company Aramark for the Public Works Department employees’ weekly uniform laundry service. Also included in the weekly service are shop towels, floor mats and mops at various City facilities including City Hall, Police Department, Community Center, Senior Center, Animal Shelter and the Corporation Yard. The services rendered over the past year have been below the performance guarantee as stated in their current contract. Various attempts by staff to resolve these service issues have failed over the past several months.

DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:

Through the use of Sourcewell, which provides cooperative contracts through competitive solicitation, staff reached out to UniFirst to provide a proposal based on the current services we are receiving. UniFirst has several successful contracts with various businesses in Ripon and the 5 year agreement attached includes a performance guarantee to resolve any deficiencies within 60 days.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The weekly service rates received from UniFirst in the attached agreement account to an overall decrease of approximately 7 percent based on our current inventory. Although the needs vary slightly throughout the year, the average weekly rate for all services rendered is approximately $350. The uniform cost is allocated to various funds based upon monthly salaries to those specific funds and the remaining miscellaneous services will be paid for through the general fund.
